Junior Games: Weekend Round Up

There was plenty of home comforts for Wolves juniors as they won all six games at Oaklands over the weekend.

The under-14 girls premier side led the way as they won a pair of games against sides who would have been expected to challenge for honours if the league season had taken place. Ipswich were beaten 65-37 on Saturday before they recorded a 39-27 victory against Haringey Angels the following lunchtime. Wolves dominated against Ipswich, with Amy Swinney leading the way with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Caitlin Ryan added 12 points, seven assists and five boards.

The following day proved to be a scrappier game as Wolves came back from an early deficit. Jemima Uzoka, Stella Emblad-Piscieli and Ryan all hit eights, with Ryan adding 19 rebounds, seven steals, five assists and three blocks, while Uzoka pulled down eight boards.

Saturday began with the under-16 girls hosting Angels and a strong second half saw them recover from a one-point half-time deficit to win 62-43. Grace Strickland, Miriam Carrasco and Daisy Porter all missed the 11-point home loss against Angels a fortnight ago, but they combined for 52 points on their return - Carrasco adding ten rebounds and five assists to her 18 points, while Strickland and Porter scored 17 points apiece.

The under-12 girls recorded their biggest win of the season as Ipswich were beaten 53-38, with Lucy and Alecia leading the win with 18 and 14 points apiece. After a two hour break, Ipswich under-12 girls returned to the court to face Wolves under-12 boys development side and a winning day was completed with a 51-29 victory, nine-year-old Alex Ryan top scoring with 28 points and ten steals.

There was a rare boys' success against Richmond Knights as the under-12 premier side produced a strong third period on the way to a 44-33 victory, Lukas Nuckey leading the scoring with 12 points.

The only defeat of the weekend came in Watford as the under-14 boys development team lost 87-33 despite 14 points from Dontel
