Tor's the (Free)man for Wolves

Oaklands College Wolves are delighted to announce that Tor Freeman will be joining them as WBBL Associate Head Coach for the 2022/23 season. It's a quick return for the 23-year-old who looked set to leave the club after successfully coaching the club's junior girls for three seasons, during which time he was named as Young Coach of the Year at the UK Coach Awards, beating off competition from candidates representing multiple sports. Freeman steps in as part of the WBBL setup at Oaklands College; working with Head Coach Lee Ryan and WEABL coach Albert Ziwa. Freeman will be a busy man as he will remain as U-16 girls coach. A role in which he hopes to go one better than last seasons league runners up place. Ryan is delighted to see Freeman join the senior Oaklands' coaching staff: "Tor has demonstrated great maturity and professionalism in his roles in junior club coaching, which made it an easy decision to bring him into the academy setup" he said. “We are invested in developing young British coaches at Oaklands; Tor becomes the next coach to get the opportunity to step up and work with the WBBL team. Tor believes in our mission of using our position in the professional league to promote a positive player pathway for the British game. With his enthusiasm and commitment to personal development he is already proving a great example to the academy players.” For Freeman it's a chance to make a step up the coaching ladder, and he's clearly excited by the challenge: "Receiving the opportunity to work with the WBBL team is something that I’ve aspired to over the past few seasons. So for Michael [Ball] and Lee to believe I’m ready to make that step-up is really exciting" he said. "I’m looking forward to the challenges that come with the role. Coaching some of Oaklands' junior NBL teams the past few seasons has given me a head start in my new role, I’m already familiar with the Oaklands style of play and the model of placing player development at the core of everything that we do. I can’t wait to see our young core develop over the coming season.” Academy Director Michael Ball is pleased to add Freeman to his coaching team: "I am really excited to see how Tor develops this coming season now that he has made the next step into the Oaklands Academy pathway" he said. "He has demonstrated a commitment to basketball and the female game in particular over the last few years – it is good to see a young coach who understands that hard work comes first and who also has the desire to learn from others.”
