Milligan Ready to Battle the Best

Lauren Milligan will return for her fourth WBBL season with Oaklands Wolves in the 2020/21 season.

Milligan, a 6’0’’ small forward and former GB youth international, will once again look to lead the defensive charge for the Wolves.

A very impactful player during her time with the Wolves, Milligan’s contributions are seen right across the stats sheet with averages of 4.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.9 steals last season.

Often described as the most influential player for the team on game day; the natural competitor will be leading the fight for the Wolves on and off the court this season as she continues to develop her coaching resume alongside playing. Named the WEABL Head Coach for Oaklands College this season, and part of the BE Leadership & Performance Programme female coaches program for 2020, she will be able to influence and guide the next generation of Wolves as a coach and teammate.

Something Coach Ryan is delighted about “I have known Lauren for a very long time and I have always believed she had the materials to make it as a great coach. Her natural competitiveness will bring out the best in junior players, as it does her teammates in the WBBL, and we are very lucky to have her representing the Wolves on both fronts this season!”

A new look role this season also has the head coach excited “In truth Lauren has been played out of position since she went to college in the states, her versatility means coaches can slot her into line-ups where they need her and she can still impact the game positively. However, she is really at her best when she is on the perimeter terrorising the opposition. We have struggled guarding some of the best in the league since we joined the WBBL, but that will change with our new line-up which will allow me to release Lauren to go after individuals. I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end.”

After a challenging period for all of us in 2020, Milligan is ready to get back to the game day experience as much as anyone, “I am so thankful we can return to basketball in the current circumstances, I live for being on court and to be able to do it for a fourth season with Oaklands is special; lets face it this is my home now! I can’t wait for the season to start, this year I’m surrounded by a great group, we have some familiar faces and some excellent additions. I’m excited to show our competitive energy in the league.”
