Wolves' WBBL team return to action after another enforced break when they host Sevenoaks Suns on Thursday evening, tip-off 6pm.
It looks likely to be the toughest game of the season for Wolves as they host a team who go into the fixture with a perfect 10-0 record, and they took a massive step towards winning the title over Easter weekend with wins against Nottingham Wildcats and BA London Lions. Suns won the league title in 2018 and 2019, losing only one of their 42 games in the process and were odds on favourites to complete a hat-trick when the 2019/20 season was abandoned. They also won the last three play-off titles as well as collecting the cup in 2019.
When Wolves travelled to Suns' temporary home in Guildford in January, they went agonisingly close to causing an upset before Suns finished strongly to win 69-62. That game came the day after a poor start had seen Suns lose the WBBL Cup final 78-67 against Leicester Riders, and that remains their only loss of the season.
Cat Carr leads the Suns with 18.3 points per game - placing her fifth in the league - and dishes out 7,3 assists, trailing only Kennedy Leonard in that category. Lavinia Da Silva and TaYani Clark dominate on the boards for Suns, averaging 9 and 8.2 rebounds per game respectively.
Wolves' coach Lee Ryan knows that the run-in during the final weeks of the regular season will bring challenges: "Every game to the end of the season is going to be crucial" he said. "Looking at the standings it’s impossible to predict so we just have to focus on ourselves each game; something the team have been doing a great job of recently."
Amari Carter played limited minutes on her return from injury as Wolves beat Essex Rebels 57-52 nearly a fortnight ago, and coach Ryan will be hoping that she's able to continue her form that has seen her average 13.7 points and 4.2 rebounds this season. Greeta Uprus led Wolves against Rebels and is now averaging 12.8 points and 5.5 boards while Lauren Milligan's 7.8 boards leads the team and she now sits on the edge of the league's top ten for rebounding.
