Wolves on the road this week

With Christmas coming early to Oaklands, only two sides are in action this week, with both the under-16 girls and under-14 boys facing trips to London.

The top two in South 1 of the U-16 girls league clash at Haringey, but it's a place in the National Cup quarter-final at stake at Greig City Academy on Saturday morning. Both teams go into the game with perfect league records, having recorded double-digit wins against Barking RDF, Lewisham Thunder and London Lions, while Tor Freeman's Wolves have also beaten CoLA Southwark Pride to sit top of the table.

The sides met three times during the series of summer friendlies last season, with Wolves winning the series 2-1. The under-14 Wolves came back from an early deficit to beat Angels 39-27 Jemima Uzoka, Stella Emblad-Piscieli and Caitlin Ryan - who are all now in the under-16 - hit eights points apiece, with Ryan adding 19 rebounds, seven steals, five assists and three blocks, while Uzoka pulled down eight boards. The previous day had seen the under-16 girls hostt Angels and a strong second half saw them recover from a one-point half-time deficit to win 62-43. Grace Strickland, Miriam Carrasco and Daisy Porter all missed the 11-point home loss against Angels a fortnight ago, but they combined for 52 points on their return.

The under-14 boys face arguably their toughest test of the season when they travel to Dagenham Park School to face Baltic Stars. The Lithuanian dominated team have won 140-25 at Brentwood Fire and 104-30 at home against London Lions, while Ibrahim Gariba's side head into the game with a 1-2 and the Wolves' coach will be hoping that all of his team are fit to travel to East London.
