Wolves bring WBBL experience in with Smith signing

Oaklands Wolves have added British / Australian guard Jorjah Smith for the 2022/23 campaign

The 5’9 guard from Perth Australia, is no stranger to the WBBL after previously suiting up for Manchester and Newcastle. League fans will be familiar with the sharp shooting guards game can look forward to her lighting it up from behind the arc for the Wolves this season! Smith has been playing back in Australia since her last outing with Newcastle in the 2020/21 season. Last summer she suited up for East Perth in the WNBL1 West where she averaged 14 points and 3 assists per game. With her ability to play both the guard spots Smith offers the Wolves great versatility and leadership across the position, something they will look to draw on to support the exciting youth players they have in the squad. Smith had this to say on the signing “I’m excited to be part of the Wolves team this season and play alongside such a great group. The young players have so much energy, the intensity is high and so is the rate of learning, they are lots of fun! Adding the three of us to the young British core is exciting, we are looking forward to helping the program and players compete and educate the academy along the way. It’s going to be interesting to see what we can do this season.” Smith has been combining playing with coaching back home; something head of performance Lee Ryan was particularly impressed with when discussing the signing. He said “Jorjah brings great experience of the league as well as the ability to be a leader. Her coaching background made her ideal for us, she will help us on the court and we can support her journey into coaching for the future. Jorjah will be leading one of our boys academy teams whilst suiting up for the WBBL, meaning she will have a huge impact right across the academy program at Oaklands. We are excited to have her with us this year!” Smith will be with the Wolves as they travel to Nottingham today in the WBBL Cup.
