Wolves add New British talent to WBBL roster

Oaklands Wolves have uncovered a new British talent with their latest signing in 6’3 wing Grace George.

George (who also goes by Oliver) is a British / Australian 2000 born player who is playing in the UK for the first time. Born in Sunderland, the versatile small forward moved to Australia at two- years old and will be back where it all began in a full circle moment with the Wolves.

George started her basketball at Ipswich Force junior club which served as a great foundation for the skilful player. Her rapid development combined with her size and skill set quickly led to region, state and International recognition, which culminated in National Teams selection at the U17 Oceana Championships, where she came away with a Gold Medal. In another full circle moment, George links up with former teammate Gould as they look to recreate the success they shared as Australian National Team teammates! George comes with a huge amount of experience, playing WNBL1 for North Gold Coast, Gold Coast, Brisbane and most recently Mackay where she averaged 9.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

The British native has this to say about joining Oaklands “I’m excited and thankful for the opportunity to be playing with Oaklands Wolves in the WBBL.I’m looking forward to the challenge of of a new league and using the experience to develop my own game, something Oaklands is able to offer players! The program is great, it offers so many young players the opportunity to realise their potential, I can’t wait to see what we can do together!”

George played one season in the US on scholarship at South Plains College -, however returned home after her season was disrupted during the Covid pandemic. Head of performance Lee Ryan is thrilled to add the player to the roster “Grace is such a unique and rare talent. At 6’3 she is skilled and able to play right across the board, huge credit to her coaches in the Australian youth system for enabling her to flourish. She comes with a ton of experience at such a young age and will be a great match up problem for other teams in the WBBL. She has all the components to have a great career, we are excited she starts her WBBL one with us!”

George will part of the Wolves squad that travel to Nottingham today for the WBBL cup game.
