Oaklands Wolves have moved to sign Tea Charlton ahead of what will be their first competitive game of the 2020/21 season.
Charlton, a 6’2 British Forward, returns to the UK after her last spell on our soil at Nottingham Wildcats ended in 2017. She played for the Wildcats whilst completing her Decorative Arts undergraduate degree at Nottingham Trent University. Since then she has plied her trade in Cyprus and Australia, before the pandemic Charlton last played in the SBL for South West Slammers. Charlton continues to study, currently taking an online masters in Sports Business, Management and Policy.
Born in Zagreb, Croatia - Charlton is a citizen of Croatia, New Zealand and Great Britain. In 2016 and 2017 she turned out for both the GB squad and the New Zealand tall ferns as she explored international basketball in both countries. Tea is settling in with the Wolves and is ready for the prospect of competition this weekend
“Since arriving to the UK, the Oaklands basketball community has been very friendly and welcoming. My new teammates are great and I am really enjoying being on court with them already. Although the pandemic has made it a difficult journey, I really appreciate being here with this team and to get to play our first game together in the WBBL!”
Coach Ryan explains the timing of this signing “We are really pleased to have Tea join us! We have been looking to bring Tea in for a while, she has a solid skill set, plays both ends, and a competitive attitude that fits really well with our group this season. With everything that has been going on in the world her signing was delayed over and over again, but i’m pleased for us all that the season will start and she will be with us for its entirety. Tea is a perfect fit for us, she is still developing and will benefit from the development setup we have at Oaklands, whilst improving the squads ability to compete and being a strong role model for the academy players.”
Tea and the Wolves will open their season on Saturday as they host Newcastle Eagles at 3pm.
