WBBL Trophy Preview

The WBBL side travel to the Morningside Arena to face Leicester Riders in the second round of the WBBL Trophy.

Wolves are coming off their first win of the season against Cardiff Met Archers in the first round of the competition. Despite the three hour journey to the Welsh capital, the side came out the blocks hot and never looked back. Oaklands moved the ball well and played tremendous defence themselves to claim the win.

The team remain bottom of the table but have built on their performances each week, showing individual talent and team chemistry.

The two sides last played each other a few weeks ago as Wolves suffered a 48-71 loss to Riders. Oaklands only trailed by one point at half time but struggled in the second half against the depth of Leicester’s team.

Since the match-up, players have found their rhythm and the team are working much better on both ends of the floor. Wolves are led by Amari Carter who averages 16 points per game, while Greeta Uprus averages 12.5 points.

Forward Louise Rouse, who scored 15 points against Cardiff, is averaging a near double-double with 10 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. On the defensive end the side’s energy is sparked by the efforts of Lauren Milligan.

As the team develop, they are becoming a group who play disciplined defence and include everyone on offence to find the best shot.

Riders recently won the WBBL Cup after beating Sevenoaks Suns 78-67 in the final. The side also sit top of the table with a perfect record of 5-0, beating their opponent by an average of 27 points. Leicester are led by Holly Winterburn who averages 16 points, 5.2 assists, 5.8 rebounds per game. WBBL Cup Finals MVP, Kate Oliver, is also averaging 15.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
