WBBL Game Preview

The WBBL side travel north to face Manchester Met Mystics on Wednesday evening.

Wolves suffered an unfortunate 86-66 loss to BA London Lions in their most recent game. Guard Amari Carter tried to play through an on going injury but missed most of the fixture. Carter will sit out against Mystics as she hopes to recover for the remainder of the season.

The injury gives Oaklands another opportunity for players to step up and come together as a team. The side has continued to improve on both ends of the floor, competing with the league’s top teams.

Similar to Wolves, Manchester have had a surprisingly underwhelming start to the season. The team are normally top competitors, but sit mid table with just three wins this year.

Georgia Jones leads the side averaging 17.1 points, 6.1 assists, 6 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game. Mystics also feature a number of players who provide valuable contributions aside Jones.

Oaklands may struggle to play their usual, tenacious defence as Manchester are careful with the ball. They are third for fewest turnovers and second for most assists in the league this season.

However, the side are also second in fewest rebounds this season, which may see Wolves crash the offensive boards. It is sure to be a good game and a must win for Oaklands who wish to make the playoffs.

Speaking to Head Coach, Lee Ryan, he said: “We are traveling light on Wednesday with four players out so the game becomes an opportunity for others to step up.

“The injury woes continue, Carter gave it a go against Lions but needs more recovery so she will miss the Manchester game.

“They are a strong team and in a normal season would be much further up the league than they are right now.

“Both of us are not in a true position so the game will be up for grabs to the team that gets it right on the day.”
