The second weekend of Oaklands Wolves junior mini season proved to be much more successful than the first as they won six of their seven games.
After an exhausting day, the most thrilling game of the day saw the under-16 girls survive a furious onslaught from Richmond Knights to win 46-45. The visitors outscored Lauren Milligan's team 14-3 in the fourth period and had a shot to win the game before a Wolves side who lost star point guard Miriam Carrasco with an ankle injury in the second quarter held on for the win.
GB international Grace Strickland hit five three pointers on her way to team-high 22 points.
Richmond under-14 girls also finished strongly but Wolves picked up a 55-51 victory with Caitlin Ryan top scoring with 16 points and Tiffany Rolls-Tyson adding 13.
There was an early start for the under-14 boys development side as they opened their season with a 46-39 victory, Donte Rose leading them with 13 points.
The rest of the boys action came against visitors Oxford City Hoops and they made a good start as the under-12s won 60-32 with Lucas Nuckey leading the way with 16 points and Max Faucherand adding 14. The under-12 development played the same Oxford side in a half-length game, and 12 points from Alex Ryan helped them to a 24-13 win.
The under-14s outscored Hoops 20-5 in the fourth period to wrap up an 70-47 victory with Luka Ibekwem top scoring with 16 points and Ben Hodges adding 12 before a combined under-14/16 side tired down the stretch to lose 84-69 against Hoops' under-16s despite 19 points from Simon Patasin and George Walker adding 14.
