GB Guard Joins the Pack

Oaklands have moved to sign GB player Melita Emanuel-Carr before the transfer deadline.

Emanuel-Carr, a 5’10 guard from London, England joins the wolves after last playing with Barking Abbey London Lions in 2019. The player suffered a knee injury at the start of the 2019-20 WBBL season and after undergoing successful surgery has been focusing on rehabilitation so far this campaign. Now fit and ready to take to the court, Oaklands made the move to bring in the dynamic guard before the transfer deadline. Prior to being at Lions, Emanuel-Carr played at Bembibre in the Spanish top division and CA Brive Correze Basket in France. Melita also had a successful college career with the University of Illinois Chicago from 2013-2017.

Thrilled by the prospect of playing this season the guard had this to say “I am super excited to resume my basketball career with Oaklands Wolves, especially after my prolonged spell out through injury. The team have given me a warm welcome so far and I look forward to helping them win as many games as possible.”

Oaklands Head Coach Lee Ryan is looking forward to adding the player to the squad for the rest of the year “Its great to add Melita to our program! I’ve followed her progress with interest since we were together in the National program in 2011. After being on the sidelines she is desperate to get back on court and we are delighted we can help continue her rise in the game. GB players with her skill set and competitive drive are rare, we are looking forward to having her around the program and helping us build for the next phase of Oaklands in the WBBL.”

Emanuel-Carr will look to fit in with the Wolves immediately. The team have started the season focused on being tenacious on the defensive end, something the guard has excelled throughout her playing career. Coach Ryan will be looking to Emanuel-Carr to add her experience in the backcourt and form a strong partnership with Carter as the Wolves look to make a jump forward this season.

Coach added this about what the signing can bring “We have been very unfortunate with our injuries so far this season, adding Melita gives us a huge boost at the right time. The way the season has shaped up we have a lot of games left for her to make her mark, our destiny is still in our hands and Melita will have a significant part to play in our run to the playoffs.”
