Wolves under-16 boys saw their National Cup dreams end at the semi-final stage as they went down 83-63 at Richmond Knights, on Sunday afternoon.
Much of the damage was done in the second period as leading scorer Simon Patasin was forced to sit down after collecting his third foul, and the hosts took advantage to build 23-18 first period lead and go into the half-time break 47-28 ahead.
Wolves started the second half well, getting the margin down to nine 51-42 following a Patasin basket but Knights pulled away to lead 64-48 at the final break and despite an early 10-4 Wolves run, the hosts closed out the victory and will play Islington in the final.
Patasin again led Wolves, finishing with 27 points and four rebounds, while Abraham Araba had an 11 point, 16 rebound double-double. Ethan Downing had eight points and five boards while Will Andrew collected eight rebounds to go with his five points.
Coach Adam Pearace had praise for his side, despite the defeat: ”We played a good team today. I'm positive about our second half performance - it showed how well we can pressure teams and cause them problems. There are still many areas we can improve and a lot of season to go - I'm proud of where we are and know we'll take leaps between now and March”
