Big wins for under-14 boys

Wolves under-14 boys collected their second league win of the season as strong second and third periods paved the way for a 60-44 home victory against London Greenhouse Pioneers, on Sunday.

After scoring the first six points in less than three minutes, Ibrahim Gariba’s side were pegged back to 8-8 at the opening break. But a 22-10 second period blew the game open as Wolves too a 30-18 lead into the locker room at half-time. And the game was effectively over at the final break with the lead growing to 43-25 before the hosts outscored Wolves 19-17 in the final frame.

Dusan Crompton led the hosts with an 11 point, ten rebound double-double, adding three steals and getting the crowd on its feet with a dunk. Kim Robinson added ten points, five rebounds and two assists with Camron Turner adding nine points and three boards, and Kayden Brown finishing with eight points, five steals and four rebounds.

While the under-14 girls saw their trip to Kent called off due to Covid-19 in the home camp, the under-16 girls shook of the Christmas rust with a 75-29 victory against Cambridge Cats.

Coach Tor Freeman used the game to give his younger players a run-out, with only one Year 11 in the team, but after a slow start they went on to dominate the game.

After taking more than three minutes to get off the mark, Wolves led 17-11 at the first break before a 15-0 run to open the second period blew the game open, and the hosts went into the locker room with a 39-17 lead.

An 18-8 third period ended the game as a contest before the hosts repeated that run in the fourth period to wrap things up.

Jemima Uzoka led the Wolves with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Amye Swinney added 13 points. Jacqueline Osei missed out on a double-double by a single rebound, finishing with ten points, while Lilith Harkness had eight boards to go with her ten points. Caitlin Ryan finished with seven assists, five rebounds, four steals and nine points as nine of the ten Wolves got on the scoresheet.

The under-13 boys premier team continued their good season with a pair of victories, beating Brentwood Leopards 38-22 before edging out East Herts Royals 20-16. In contrast the under-14 development team went down 46-14 against West Herts Warriors.
